| I proudly speak out on these issues, because I know that I am right. I have no doubt. America began with individual liberty as its supreme ideal. Sadly it was not enjoyed by all in the beginning, but those magnificent geniuses created a blueprint by which liberty would grow and flourish until it included everyone in our great nation. In the beginning our nation had progressed to a more free society with each generation with expanded liberty for those once excluded. Then certain institutions were created which slowed liberty's march forward. The implementation of a personal income tax through the dubious passage of the 16th Amendment in 1913, followed by the New Deal and Social Security, and then catalyzed by the leftist political and environmentalist movement of the 60s and 70s have slowed, halted, and in some cases reversed the progress of liberty in our land. While major inequities such as those affecting race and gender have been greatly mitigated or rectified, other rights have been trampled under a leftist onslaught. Police Officers are the thin blue line between the People and those who would do them harm. Most often that means the criminal, home-grown or foreign, but on occasion the harm can come from our own government. I strongly feel that the police should be primarily defenders of the U.S., and their respective state constitutions. When politicians and bureaucrats enact socialist edicts and then expect liberty-loving police officers to enforce such mandates against their fellow citizens they are treating the traditional American order of things with contempt. As I said earlier, I don't tell other cops how to do their jobs. But what I will do ask officers is to think carefully on the types of laws, rules, and policies that they are asked to enforce. Does what you're doing fall on the outside of the following definition: Proper law enforcement in a free county protects the People's lives, liberty, and property from harm, theft, or fraud committed by another. If the law, rule, or policy falls outside of this description you owe it to yourself, and to the American way of life, to stop and think about what you're doing. I mean truly masticate on the essence and purpose of the law; contemplate if the law reflects the kind of America you believe in. I'd urge American lawmen to use their discretion wisely if, or when, enforcing socialistic laws. If the officer works for an agency that actively compels the enforcement of socialistic laws then my advice is to obey your command, but work in your off-duty time to eliminate collectivist activism from our nation so you can feel good about doing your job. Our first duty as American cops to our fellow Americans is to defend individual liberty, not to infringe upon it. |
