I appreciate your very astute observations. Every altercation involving an officer involves a gun. This is always on the officer's mind, or it should be. You're right, this could have easily gone from simply frightening to nightmarish in an instant. Thanks for the comments.

I was looking for closeure to this "incident" since the explosion of the headline occured about a month ago. I too agree and felt like I was the only one who saw the big picture. This teenager assaulted and officer, plain and simple! How ridiculous to sensationalize a headline that screams an officer punched someone over jaywalking.Regardless of the "he said, she said"...bottom line...She assaulted an officer and how frightening to think the following: What if she had reached for his gun? Hello, it's a possibility witnessing her blind rage. He had no choice but to act in the moment to do his best to diffuse a provoking situation. I don't care what her race religion or creed is. I do care that she posed a potential threat by involving herself the way she did. I do believe in the justice system, and I hope that the officer involved finds the justice he deserves.

i wanted to leave a comment about your book, "Seattle Curiosities." Just processing it for Seattle Public Library's collections. There is an error on the map in the front of the book. It places Kerry Park, (#46) on Magnolia Bluff instead of on Queen Anne Hill, where it belongs. Just wanted you to know. Good reading, otherwise. Thanks for writing it. Cordially, Mr. Kim R. Turner (book and Seattle lover)

There has to be a middle road here. It is simplistic to believe that it's a matter of fiscal responsibility to choose whether or not to purchase health insurance. Sometimes the choice is to pay the premium or to purchase food, or to pay the electric bill. This is not the fault of the person who lost their job because the Madoffs of the world bent them over and drilled them. I find this even more offensive coming from a cop, whose very generous insurance policy is part of his employment package. Wonder how smug you'd be if you were forced to personally pay the $1800.00 a month for a family of four that my sister has to pay. How does someone on minimum wage afford that? If paying for some form of national health care is the government stealing from the people, what is the school tax, and other taxations that benefit some individuals and not others? And don't even get me started on how the people get stolen from by having to make up what the churches don't pay in income or property tax.

One thing that I think should be added is the arrogance of the "so-called" advocate of Global Warming himself, Mr. Al Gore. Hmmm, If Global Warming is really caused by the habbits of people who like to drive big cars, live in big houses that use more energy than a rural town and fly private jets around the world spreading the word about how to reduse the effects of Global Warming, Oh, wait a minute, that is Al Gore.
If we all followed Mr. Gores lead, Global warming would have melted the earth by now.

I sincerely hope you are right on the overestimation of America's appetite for socialism....but I am not seeing much evidence of it. A few of us are yelling "foul" but the success of the socialists in the public schools is hard to combat. The polls are rigged. Indoctrination is , at least, 50% of the population already. Keep up the good work...maybe you can get through to a few dimwits. I'm feeling very discouraged. Nice to find you here.

Good points. That Ayn Rand sure has made her mark.

I'll say that Obama is going a little too far left on the economic front for my comfort, but the consolation, if consolation it can be called, is that if it fails the voters will turn with a fury.
